PRS iPad app surpasses 10,000 downloads – and counting
Since the official launch of the Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery iPad app in September, the number of plastic surgeons downloading the journal continues to soar. To date, more than 10,500 practicing plastic surgeons, residents, fellow attending surgeons and other medical colleagues have downloaded the PRS app, which combines the print journal with multimedia functionality that represents a truly new era of scientific publishing.
"The app is everything we hoped for," says PRS Editor-in-Chief Rod Rohrich, MD. "It's the best of the print and online experiences all in the palm of your hand."
The PRS app replicates the experience of reading the print edition, but enhances it with hyperlinked functionality, navigation and embedded multimedia features. High-definition videos and informative podcasts are literally just a touch away.
"This is the same journal that you've known and loved since 1946," says Dr. Rohrich. "It's the same content, the same high standard of excellence. The only difference is the delivery mechanism. And unlike print, the iPad is able to show each article in its entirety – including videos."
Previously, users had to log-in to PRSJournal.com to view supplemental digital content.
"This app gives readers unprecedented access to premium content in a more convenient format," says Dr. Rohrich. "You can listen to audio and watch any associated videos without ever leaving the article. It really is a far more intuitive and integrated way to read the journal."
