BRA Day 2013 focuses on team approach to breast cancer care
After a successful launch of Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) Day USA last year, the public education campaign continues to gain steam as more plastic surgeons, other breast cancer care specialties and corporate partners line up to support the cause this year on Oct. 16.
The BRA Day USA theme for 2013 is the "team approach" to breast cancer - an effort to ensure that women have a full team of breast cancer care specialists on their side, including a plastic surgeon.
Jewel returns this year to serve as the campaign's spokesperson, and a TV public service announcement (PSA) featuring the singer/songwriter is now airing throughout the United States. The effort - including the first public service announcement distributed last October - has garnered more than 131 million impressions nationwide.
In addition, Jewel's song "Flower," written for breast cancer survivors, continues to raise funds for the Breast Reconstruction Awareness Fund of The PSF. The song is available through iTunes and Amazon. A new PSA and multimedia news release are slated to be issued in October, featuring patients who benefitted from the team approach to breast cancer care and breast reconstruction. Platinum BRA Day supporters Sientra and MTF will also have a prominent presence in the campaign.
New this year, BRA Day participants are eligible to enter the BRA Day double-loop ribbon social media contest. The group that executes the most creative use of the BRA Day double ribbon - and records the creative display via the mobile app Vine (which captures and can share six-second looping videos) - will win $5,000 toward planning their 2014 BRA Day event. Vine video entries must be posted to Twitter with the hashtag #closetheloop by Nov. 1. To enter the contest, you must
have signed a BRA Day affiliate agreement, which can be requested via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
